Mayors and CEOs

Overview

The working relationship between the Mayor, as the leader of the council and CEO leading the organisation, is one of the most important relationships in local government. In South Australia, we recognise the pivotal leadership roles of Mayors and CEOs.

Unlocking strategy – a united approach is about Mayors and CEOs being at their best, in their distinct role and in collaboration to lead and create profound change.
Mayors and CEOs are at the centre of strategy, dealing first hand with strategic opportunities and pressing issues, and being agile to enable strategy to thrive and work together to bring the greatest benefits to local people.

A united approach moves beyond hierarchy and control. It requires courage and willingness to work on the space between the two roles, model collaboration and be outward facing.  When it works, it is the ‘sweet spot’ of local government, where a shared determination, can do attitude, mutual respect and effort comes together to lead and shape things for the better.
Each component of this forum will unpack what leadership research shows – improved relationships equal improved results. It sets the tone for relationships within the staff group, within the groups of elected members and between the two.
We are excited to focus the entire Forum on the conversations Mayors and CEOs need to have, provide an opportunity to strengthen this critical working relationship, have some fun, reflect, share experiences and build connections with Mayors and CEOs from across the state.

Program coming soon.
