Overview

Strategic thinking is a key skill of an effective leader. Leaders must be adept at ‘seeing’ themes and trends and envisioning their own, and others ideas to assist them understand potential challenges and opportunities.
 
This forum will offer insights into current leadership research and explore how having an understanding of different perspectives relates to Elected Member leadership effectiveness and enhances strategic thinking.

An understanding of ‘strategic thinking’ in the context of a Council’s strategic management planning process
An understanding of ‘shared leadership’
Insight into current research on ‘leadership humility’ and what it means for the Elected Member leadership role
An understanding of the skills a leader requires to be effective in strategic decision making
 

 

Facilitator

Rowena McLean, Sector Development Director, LGA and Dr Chia-Yen (Chad) Chiu
 
Dr Chia is a published researcher on leadership and has worked both in Australia and overseas.  He is a Senior Lecturer at UniSA and takes pride in his approach as a facilitator when it comes to supporting others in learning.
