Overview:
This briefing will focus on why it is important for councils to consider climate risk when planning for economic development.  The briefing will be accompanied by the LGA’s ‘Climate Risk Management: A guide for local government economic development in South Australia’, which will be made available to you before the briefing.

The session will provide an overview of the risks for councils as extreme events increase in number and severity. It will explore why elected members are responsible for considering climate risks and how legal liability may result from a failure to take action. Speakers will provide practical examples of their experiences with climate risk management in the context of economic development.
