Target Audience

All Elected Members & council staff, including IT staff, whose role it is to protect information entrusted to them by their council.

 

Overview

All Councils have information security controls in place to manage the security of their assets; i.e. financial information, intellectual property and technology. Councils need to be sure that 3 important things are not lacking:

 

Key Learnings

  • Baselined and consistently understood general knowledge and awareness around the subject of cybersecurity
  • Permission to question and report incidents that could be potential threats to cybersecurity; and importantly
  • An organisational culture that encourages and supports the above
    • Explain how risk is a governing concept for any council cybersecurity activity
    • Describe specific dangers to councils and also to participants individually
    • Assist a council reduce potential contribution to cybersecurity risk
    • Overview the Australian Signal Directorate’s “Essential 8” cybersecurity mitigation strategies in the context of a local government’s IT operations.

Facilitator

Tom Sulda is a business strategy and process consultant as well as a process trainer in Business Analysis, Project Management (Prince2, Agile, PMBOK, Prince2 Agile, and MSP) including Information Security. Tom is a highly experienced business executive having worked across all business functions from the front to back end including corporate services for NFPs, Government and Commercial businesses.
