For: All contract management and procurement staff and staff that draft and negotiate contracts or undertake procurement processes on behalf of councils.
(i.e. CEO’s, procurement and contract management officers, governance officers, property and asset staff)
Contract Law encompasses any laws or regulations directed towards enforcing certain promises.
This Contract Law training session is delivered in two parts.
PART ONE - 10:00am – 12:00pm
This session will address the following general Contract Law principles:
-Types of contracts;
- Express terms v's implied terms;
- Boiler plate clauses;
- The 10 most common contractual issues.
Discussion of general Contract Law principles will focus on and reference clauses from the Local Government Association Procurement template contracts.

PART TWO - 12:45pm – 4:00pm
Part two of this program is an interactive session which offers participants the opportunity to up-skill themselves in contract negotiations and identify and address key contractual risk issues.
In this session participants will work with presenters and each other to examine, identify and address clause issues. Examples of clauses examined will include; liability and indemnity, default and termination, IP, and disputes.
